The climate of the country is highly influenced by its geographical position. So listen to the text about Australia’s climate.

  Australia is the smallest continent of the world. It lies in the Southern Hemisphere. So most of Australia's climate is hot. The record temperature was recorded in 1889 at 51.3 degrees Celsius. An easy way to tell what season it is in Australia is to relate it to what season it is in Ukraine. If the season is winter in Ukraine then it's summer in Australia. When the season is summer in Ukraine it is winter in Australia. In the north, half of the year is "wet", and half is "dry". From November to April heavy rains fill the rivers and make enormous lakes where thousands of birds come for the summer. From May to October it is often sunny and dry for weeks, and it is popular place for winter holidays in the sun.

  Most of Australia's population lives in the south and east of the country, where the summers are warm and the winters not cold. The only place where snow falls in Australia is in the south - east and Tasmania. Tasmania is cooler and wetter than the rest of Australia, with high mountains, thick forests and some of the world's oldest trees
